Hi, I'm Yoon Kyung Shon

I am a 2nd year CS Ph.D. student at the Pervasive Wellbeing Tech Lab, University of Maryland, advised by Professor Pablo Paredes and Jun Nishida. My research interest lies in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Affective Computing. Currently, my research focuses on exploring how computing can be effectively utilized to cope with Onychophagia, a nail-biting behavior.

Prior to my Ph.D., I worked as a research engineer at LG Electronics in South Korea. Leaving school and gaining various experiences in life, I have developed a strong desire to engage in cutting-edge research that can make a positive impact on people. Fortunately, I am now enjoying the opportunity to pursue my studies and research!ย

One unique thing about my life is that I grew up mostly in South Korea, but I spent my 9th grade in Australia, away from my family. I encountered racial discrimination, loneliness, and cultural differences, but I appreciate this past experience in that it has strengthened me and instilled in me the resilience to overcome any difficulties and hardships.

I love traveling and have visited a total of 17 countries so far, but the most wonderful place was Switzerland. Someday, I want to take my parents and enjoy the beautiful scenery with a morning coffee. In addition to travel, I enjoy playing League of Legends. I used to be in a Diamond tier as a Zyra support, but now I just casually play as a hobby.

I appreciate my family for always supporting me. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘งโค๏ธ
